Ellen Crane Schulman, APR

ellen Ellen Schulman, who has been practicing public relations since 1981, has extensive senior public relations counseling and planning experience. She founded Ellen Schulman Public Relations (formerly Proseplus, Inc.), in December 2000.

She previously was responsible for the development and implementation of the global public relations and communications strategies for Learning Pays.com, a Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based e-learning technology company. She also was a managing director for Hill and Knowlton, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious public relations firms. She launched and managed the organization's South Florida office.

Many of Schulman’s prior positions involved pioneering new programs and departments. She built a statewide marketing program for Offerdahl’s Bagel Gourmet during the company’s transition to the national Einstein Bros Bagels chain. As director of community relations for Tripp, Scott, Conklin & Smith, she launched the Fort Lauderdale law firm’s first internal marketing department.

As a communications specialist at American Airlines in Dallas, Schulman managed the company’s $6 million AMR Foundation through focused giving and national contributions programs. She also launched the new American Airlines Museum and implemented an awareness campaign to establish the airline as environmentally conscious. She began her career in the public relations department of the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh.

Schulman, who holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Georgia, graduated from Leadership Broward, Leadership Boca Raton and Leadership Palm Beach. She most recently served as secretary for the Broward College Foundation Board of Directors and chaired the philanthropy committee. She provides public relations pro bono for the Fort Lauderdale Children’s Theatre. As the producer for the radio show Forum for Nonprofits, she donates her time to provide worthy charities with a platform to tell their stories throughout South Florida and the nation on the Beasley Radio network.

Selected one of the Top 100 Women in Broward County in 2009 by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County, she was named a 2007 Women of the Year by the Association of Women in Communications and a 2006 Woman of Distinction by the March of Dimes. In addition, she received the Miami Dolphin’s Community Quarterback Award in 2006 and the Salvation Army Advisory Board Member of the Year in 2005. A member of the Public Relations Society of America since 1981, she currently chairs the local chapter’s accreditation committee and serves as the chapter delegate to both district and national conferences. She also is a trustee member of the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce.
